A Former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Bello Adejare has dumped the Opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
His resignation was announced on Monday. Sources close to the lawmaker and those in the APC confirmed that he had joined the ruling party to team up with the governorship candidate of the party, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.
Bello, who is from Ede, the hometown of the governorship candidate of the PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke,
was the running mate of Senator Iyiola Omisore, who was then the candidate of the PDP during the 2014 governorship election in the state, said he decided to resign from the opposition party because ‘some elements’ had hijacked the party.
His resignation letter read, “I hereby write to officially resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of the party.
I use this medium to appreciate the party and the leadership for the several opportunities given to me to serve the party and the people of Osun State: the period of which my loyalty, consistency, and dedication to the course of the party and state were never questioned or in doubt.
In particular, my party, PDP, gave me the opportunity in 2003 to 2011 to be the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola. Also, in 2014, I was made the deputy governorship candidate to Otunba Iyiola Omisore.
Going forward, therefore, the recent events, especially within the Osun State chapter of the party which to me, are inimical, contrary and a total shift from the intendments of the founding fathers of the party, which was built on justice, fairness and service, had caused me to reconsider my membership of the party of which I hereby again resigned.
“It is my sincere belief that some certain elements had hijacked the rudder of the ship of the party and changed its course towards an unknown part of which I am not ready to take.”
